The Colton Yellowjackets will face off against the Ontario Jaguars at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. Colton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Colton's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They put the hurt on Miller with a sharp 13-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Yellowjackets in their matchups with the Rebels: they've now won five in a row.
The result came thanks to JASMINE DELAROSA's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, MALEAH JUAREZ and JOCELYN ORNELAS did most of the damage at the plate: JUAREZ went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while ORNELAS went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of DESIREE ARMENTA, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Colton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .469. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, after some red-hot attacks at the plate in their last three games, Ontario finally came back down to earth on Wednesday. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Jurupa Valley. The contest marked Ontario's lowest-scoring match so far this season.
Ontario saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Angelina Garcia, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
With the loss, Ontario broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 3-2. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 12.7 runs. As for Colton, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Colton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .356. However, it's not like Ontario struggles in that department as they've averaged .438. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Colton suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Ontario in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Will Colton have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
