Football Recap: Glenelg Comes Up Short Despite Yug Shah's Big Defensive Game

Glenelg extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 4-3. They fell 28-16 to the Guilford Park Panther. While the Gladiators didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Panther 10-0 in the first quarter.

When it comes to explaining why Glenelg lost, don't look at Jailen Johnson. Despite the final result, he rushed for 147 yards and one touchdown on only 13 carries.

Even if they lost, Glenelg's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Leading the way was Yug Shah with two. He is becoming a predictor of Glenelg's success: when he posts at least one sack the team is 3-1 (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Doug Eakin was another major factor on D, making 11 total tackles (2.0 for loss).

As for Guilford Park, the win keeps them at an undefeated 7-0. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 35.4 points this season.

Tyler Lee produced another solid effort rushing for 201 yards and three scores while picking up 7.4 yards per carry.

Looking ahead, Glenelg will venture away from home to square off against Long Reach at 6:00 p.m. on the 24th. As for Guilford Park, they will welcome Howard at 6:00 p.m. on the 24th. The Lions' defense has only allowed 13.6 points per game this season, so the Panther's offense will have their work cut out for them.
