Softball Game Preview: Freeport Yellowjackets vs. Greensburg Salem Golden Lions

The Freeport Yellowjackets are taking a road trip to face off against the Greensburg Salem Golden Lions at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Freeport hasn't scored more than two runs for seven games straight, a trend the squad is eager to reverse.

Freeport fell victim to Indiana and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Little Indians by a score of 1-0.

Meanwhile, Greensburg Salem was able to grind out a solid victory over Derry on Friday, taking the game 9-5.

Alle Scarpa spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 13 Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Cate Waugaman, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Katana Schade was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Greensburg Salem is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Freeport, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-10.

Freeport might still be hurting after the 6-0 loss they got from Greensburg Salem when the teams last played back in April. Can the Yellowjackets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
