Baseball Game Preview: Wheatland Pirates vs. Bear River Bruins

The Wheatland Pirates are taking a road trip to take on the Bear River Bruins at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Wheatland will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

Wheatland will bounce into Wednesday's contest after beating Lassen, who they had gone 0-4 against in their four prior meetings. The Pirates came out on top against the Grizzlies by a score of 7-4 on Wednesday.

Tucker Petersen was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Adrian Villar and Jordan James did most of the damage at the plate: Villar went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while James went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Bear River's offense. They lost 11-0 to Lincoln on Wednesday. The Bruins' loss signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.

Bear River's defeat dropped their record down to 13-5. As for Wheatland, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.

Bear River's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Wheatland has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .462. It's a different story for Bear River, though, as they've only averaged .361. Will they be able to contain Wheatland's hitters?

Everything went Wheatland's way against Bear River in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Wheatland made off with an 11-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
