Basketball Game Preview: Westover Wolverines vs. Seventy-First Falcons

Westover and Seventy-First are an even 5-5 against one another since November of 2014, but not for long. The Westover Wolverines will welcome the Seventy-First Falcons at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Seventy-First took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Westover, who comes in off a win.

Westover is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 63-0 victory over Triton. The Wolverines have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three contests by 22 points or more this season.

Westover's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alena Dilione, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Ja?Naisha Carney, who posted 15 points in addition to six boards and six steals.

Meanwhile, Seventy-First lost to South View at home by a 62-44 margin on Wednesday.

Westover will have to keep a close watch on Kariana Williams and Alani-Skye Wilkerson, a pair of players who had a big impact on Seventy-First's prior game. Williams put up 12 points along with six assists and six boards, while Wilkerson dropped a double-double on ten points and ten boards. Williams is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 12 games she's played dating back to last season. Jewel Gully was another key player, putting up four points.

Westover has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 23.5 points per game. As for Seventy-First, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.

Westover took their victory against Seventy-First when the teams last played back in December of 2023 by a conclusive 67-43. Will Westover repeat their success, or does Seventy-First have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
