Recap: Newberry Panthers vs. Bell Bulldogs
In what's become a running theme this season, the Newberry Panthers gave their fans yet another huge victory on Monday. They really took it to Bell for the full four quarters, racking up a 73-36 victory on the road. Newberry's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Leading Newberry to victory were Sarah Beaulieu and Brandy Whitfield. Beaulieu scored 22 points along with seven assists and six steals, while Whitfield dropped a double-double on 32 points and ten steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Whitfield has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jada Brown, who scored seven points along with five steals.
When it comes to explaining why Bell lost, one person who can't be blamed is Maddie Smith. Despite the final result, she scored 15 points along with three steals.
Newberry is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. As for Bell, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-11.
Newberry will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Santa Fe at 6:00 p.m. Santa Fe will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 379th, while Newberry is ranked 185th). Bell won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Saint Francis Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd.
