Softball Recap: Atlantic Eagles vs. Somerset Academy - Canyons Cougars
Atlantic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They fell 14-9 to the Somerset Academy - Canyons Cougars. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Atlantic of the 15-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture last Monday.
Lauryn Thompson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Madlene Dormil, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
On Somerset Academy - Canyons' side, Ryleigh Singer was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off three hits (and not a single walk). Singer has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive pitching appearances. Singer was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with a home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI.
In other batting news, Kaylee Wilt was incredible, going 4-for-4 with four runs, three doubles, and two RBI. Christina Nguyen was another key contributor, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.
Atlantic's defeat dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Somerset Academy - Canyons, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-12.
Atlantic will take on Martin County at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Somerset Academy - Canyons, they will head out on the road to face off against Cardinal Newman at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
