Baseball Game Preview: Croatan Cougars vs. Hunt Warriors

The Croatan Cougars will challenge the Hunt Warriors at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hunt took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Croatan, who comes in off a win.

While Croatan's victory against Southwest Onslow wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Cougars had just enough and edged out the Stallions 4-3 on Monday. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Stallions: they've now won five in a row.

Cole Walters made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Croatan is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-8 otherwise. Walters was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ethan Demercurio was excellent, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Croatan is undefeated when Demercurio posts two or more runs, but 5-9 otherwise. Clay Cameron was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Hunt's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They came up short against West Carteret, falling 7-1.

Hunt saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joe Glover, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run.

Croatan's victory bumped their record up to 8-9. As for Hunt, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-8.

Everything went Croatan's way against Hunt when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Croatan made off with an 8-0 win. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
