Basketball Recap: Berlin Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Brooke Walker and Ava Desmarais

Berlin and Ellington squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Berlin had to settle for second. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 48-38 to the Ellington Knights, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Redcoats have been going strong on the season, but this is now their second loss in a row.

Berlin's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Ava Desmarais, who posted 14 points and seven rebounds, and Brooke Walker, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 14 boards. Walker has been hot, having posted eight or more boards the last seven times she's played.

Even though they lost, Berlin smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Berlin's loss dropped their record down to 17-8. As for Ellington, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-6.

Berlin does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Ellington, they are taking a road trip to take on East Catholic at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
