Softball Recap: Friday's Victory Is Coalinga's Seventh in Last Eight Outings

It's playoff time, and Coalinga had no trouble coming through when it counted. They put the hurt on the Nipomo Titans with a sharp 11-1 win on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Horned Toads, who have now won 13 matchups by nine runs or more so far this season.

Cabella Redding spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up ten Ks. Those ten strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Lola Martin was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloe Sandoval, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Coalinga was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Nipomo only posted a batting average of .130.

Coalinga is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Nipomo, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-8.

Coalinga didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 3-0 win against Hanford on the 20th. Nipomo does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
