Preview: Walsh Jesuit Warriors vs. St. Ignatius Wildcats

The Walsh Jesuit Warriors will head out on the road to face off against the St. Ignatius Wildcats at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.

Walsh Jesuit was handed a three-point loss in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin on Friday. Walsh Jesuit took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 67-36 victory over Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Walsh Jesuit had established a 21 point advantage.

Meanwhile, St. Ignatius had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.6 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Wednesday. They really took it to Benedictine for the full four quarters, racking up a 88-31 victory on the road. St. Ignatius has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matchups by 24 points or more this season.

St. Ignatius' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Damon Friery, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Quinn Woidke, who scored 14 points along with four steals.

Walsh Jesuit has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-8 record this season. As for St. Ignatius, their victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-3.

Walsh Jesuit didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against St. Ignatius in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, but they still walked away with a 67-62 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Walsh Jesuit since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
