Recap: Los Lunas Tigers vs. Valencia Jaguars
The Los Lunas Tigers won the last time they faced the Valencia Jaguars, and things went their way on Saturday too. Los Lunas came out on top against Valencia by a score of 50-37.
Tessa Jaramillo was her usual excellent self, scoring 12 points along with four steals. Jaramillo is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Vayda Golino was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
When it comes to explaining why Valencia lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jadyn Montoya. Despite the final result, she scored 20 points along with four steals. Montoya scored a full 54.1% of Valencia's points, the ninth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaiden Montgomery, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds.
Los Lunas is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 6-5 record this season. As for Valencia, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-6.
Los Lunas is on the road again on Tuesday and play against Organ Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on January 9th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (Organ Mountain is ranked 15th, while Los Lunas is ranked 27th). As for Valencia, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Bernalillo at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Bernalillo focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 on Friday.
