Recap: Union City Golden Tornadoes vs. Melrose Golden Wildcats
The Union City Golden Tornadoes's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 52-51 to Melrose. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Union City has scored all season.
Melrose's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Devin Sanders Jr, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. The game was Sanders Jr's ninth in a row with at least ten points. William Carver was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with four steals.
Union City has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-5 record this season. As for Melrose, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-5.
Union City will head out on the road to face off against South Fulton at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. South Fulton will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Tennessee Rankings (they are ranked 314th, while Union City is ranked 73rd). As for Melrose, they will be playing at home against Kirby at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
