Basketball Game Preview: Tehachapi Warriors vs. Foothill Trojans

The Tehachapi Warriors will head out on the road to face off against the Foothill Trojans at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Tehachapi will bounce into Monday's matchup after beating West, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Tehachapi blew past West, posting an 89-44 victory. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 634th, while the Vikings are ranked 1351st), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Foothill scored the most points they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They fell to Del Oro 74-70. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Wednesday (65), the Trojans still had to take the loss.

Tehachapi will need focus on slowing down Giovani Cruz, one of several Foothill players who made an impact when they last played. He posted 15 points and seven rebounds. Cruz's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Derrick Sanchez, who put up 19 points and eight boards.

Foothill's defeat dropped their record down to 6-16. As for Tehachapi, their win bumped their record up to 14-7.

Tehachapi took their victory against Foothill when the teams last played back in December of 2023 by a conclusive 66-46. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Foothill's Diego Cabrera, who went 6 for 10 en route to 19 points and eight rebounds.
