Softball Recap: Central Extends Winning Streak to 15

Central came tearing into Thursday's match with 14 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 15-3 margin over the Opelika Bulldogs. Considering the Red Devils have won 20 contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Central got a great performance from Kayla Storey as she tossed five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Storey has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Gerritt Griggs, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Allyson Supan, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .391 or higher in four consecutive games.

Central's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 32-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Opelika, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 14-17.

Central wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 14-6 win against Sardis on the 18th. As for Opelika, they will take on Valley at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
