Softball Game Preview: Era Hornets vs. Chico Dragons

The Era Hornets will head out to take on the Chico Dragons at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Neither Era nor Chico posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Things were looking good for Era after they put the first points on the board on Tuesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell 5-2 to Nocona. The Hornets have struggled against the Indians recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meetings.

Sydnee Wisian spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 16 Ks. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February.

On the hitting side, Era saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aubrey Schneider, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Chico suffered their biggest loss since February 25th on Tuesday. They came up short against Lindsay, falling 15-0. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Dragons were not able to get on the board.

Chico's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-8. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.5 runs over those games. As for Era, their loss dropped their record down to 3-10.

Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Era has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .540. However, it's not like Chico struggles in that department as they've averaged .556. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Era might still be hurting after the 19-8 defeat they got from Chico in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can Era avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
