Basketball Recap: Concord Academy Takes a Loss

Concord Academy lost against Lake Norman back in November of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Eagles came up short against the Wildcats, falling 83-59.

Despite the loss, Concord Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jada Powell dropped a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Those 14 boards set a new season-high mark for Powell. Justice Alexander was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Lake Norman had a senior duo take command as Kelsey Rhyne shot 47% from the field en route to 22 points and four steals and Rayana Minard went 10-for-12 on her way to 22 points and five rebounds. Minard is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 50% in the last five games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Finley Sherrill, who went 5-for-12 to rack up 16 points and six boards.

Concord Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season. As for Lake Norman, the victory was the 25th in a row (dating back to last season) for them, bringing their record up to 3-0.

Concord Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 60-56 win against Marvin Ridge on the 29th. As for Lake Norman, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 63-49 victory against Terry Sanford on the 29th.
