Softball Game Preview: Sedro-Woolley Cubs vs. Garfield Bulldogs

Sedro-Woolley is on a 19-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Garfield is on a six-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Cubs will host the Bulldogs at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Garfield's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Saturday: Sedro-Woolley hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. The Cubs never let Mt. Baker get on the board and left with a 16-0 win on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Cubs in their matchups with the Mountaineers: they've now won six in a row.

Garfield came out on top against Bishop Blanchet on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive 12-run first inning. The Bulldogs were the clear victors by a 22-12 margin over the Bears.

Sammy Breckenridge looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Joie Cunningham was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitlyn Washington, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs.

Garfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .657. They are 15-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Garfield is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games. As for Sedro-Woolley, their victory bumped their record up to 16-2.
