Football Recap: Haven Comes Up Short

Haven dropped to 5-2 on Friday, ending the team's five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They took a blow against the Chaparral Roadrunners, falling 48-21. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Wildcats have suffered since October 4, 2024.

Brogan Wray threw for 261 yards while picking up 10.9 yards per attempt. Zade Turner was his top target, picking up 112 receiving yards. On the ground, Cole Brawner rushed for 153 yards and three touchdowns.

As for Chaparral, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-2. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

A big part of Chaparral's victory came down to the chemistry between Daniel Schmidt and his top target Kenny Diaz. Schmidt threw for 209 yards and three TDs while completing 71.4% of his passes while Diaz gained 214 total yards and two touchdowns. Those three passing touchdowns gave Schmidt a new career-high.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Haven will face off against Kingman on Friday. As for Chaparral, they will square off against Collegiate at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Roadrunners will be up against the Spartans' rather soft defense (which has allowed 27.71 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
