Basketball Recap: Mission Oak Takes a Loss

If Mission Oak was feeling good fresh off their 95-26 takedown of West on Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mission Oak Hawks were outmatched by the Hanford Bullpups and fell 103-73. The Hawks lost against the Bullpups in their previous head to head back in February, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 59-56 score last time.

Mission Oak's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Malakai Rodriguez, who went 8 of 16 en route to 22 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Joaquin Torrez, who went 9 for 20 on his way to 24 points.

Even though they lost, Mission Oak smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in nine consecutive matches.

Mission Oak's loss dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Hanford, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-2.

Mission Oak will take on Hoover in a tournament on Thursday. Hoover will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Mission Oak surely won't give up without a fight. As for Hanford, they will be taking part in a tournament against Monache at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Hanford knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past ten games -- so hopefully Monache likes a good challenge.
