Preview: London Pirates vs. Goliad Tigers
The London Pirates will head out on the road to face off against the Goliad Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. London will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 655th, while Goliad is ranked 308th).
While it was all tied up 21-21 at halftime, London was not quite Industrial's equal in the second half on Friday. London was beaten by Industrial 56-28. London was down 42-21 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
Meanwhile, Goliad had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 43.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They strolled past Edna with points to spare, taking the game 21-6.
Goliad's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Lamont Franklin, who rushed for 50 yards and a touchdown, and Eli Luco, who rushed for 47 yards and two touchdowns.
Industrial's victory bumped their season record to 5-3 while London's loss dropped theirs to 5-4.
London was dealt a bruising 34-0 defeat at the hands of Goliad in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. Can London avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
