Basketball Game Preview: New Richmond Lions vs. Wilmington Hurricane

New Richmond is 9-1 against Wilmington since February of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The New Richmond Lions are taking a road trip to take on the Wilmington Hurricane at 7:00 p.m. New Richmond is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.3 points per game this season.

New Richmond is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They walked away with an 84-74 victory over Bishop Brossart on Friday. The win was all the more spectacular given the Lions' disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 314th in Ohio, while the Mustangs are ranked 129th in Kentucky).

New Richmond's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Grant Hess, who went 12 of 19 en route to 27 points along with six rebounds and three steals. The game was Hess' fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Young, who went 7 of 8 en route to 17 points and six rebounds.

New Richmond smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Wilmington posted their closest win since December 15, 2023 last Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 52-49 victory over Carroll.

Wilmington's win bumped their record up to 2-5. As for New Richmond, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.

New Richmond came up short against Wilmington when the teams last played back in February, falling 52-47. Can New Richmond avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
