Softball Recap: DeKalb Comes Up Short

DeKalb fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Kaneland on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Knights by a score of 3-1. The Barbs haven't had much luck with the Knights recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Ayla Gould spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, DeKalb saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nazeria Dean, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

DeKalb's defeat dropped their record down to 15-13. As for Kaneland, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-12.

Coming up, DeKalb will be playing in front of their home fans against Neuqua Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Barbs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. Kaneland does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
