Baseball Recap: Hicks Now 4-1 over Last Five Games

Hicks won the last time they faced Anacoco and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Pirates walked away with a 5-1 victory over the Indians. The game was the first time the Pirates have beaten the Indians on their field since April 16, 2019.

Luke Williams was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kane Hagan, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Wesley Marshall also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Hicks is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season. As for Anacoco, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-9.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Hicks will challenge rival Pitkin at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Pirates 1.2, the Tigers 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Anacoco is set to face off against their familiar foe Elizabeth at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
