Basketball Game Preview: Gordon-Rushville Mustangs vs. Bridgeport Bulldogs

Gordon-Rushville and Bridgeport are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2017, but not for long. The Gordon-Rushville Mustangs will head out on the road to take on the Bridgeport Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Gordon-Rushville saw some tournament action on Saturday. They took a 70-62 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hemingford. The loss continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Bobcats: they've now lost three in a row.

Despite the defeat, Gordon-Rushville saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Case Scheenen went 9 of 15 en route to 24 points and five steals. Those five steals gave Scheenen a new career-high. Kannon Leeper was another key player, putting up ten points in addition to five assists and five steals.

Even though they lost, Gordon-Rushville was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Bridgeport came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Trailblazers by a score of 52-39. 52 seems to be a good number for the Bulldogs as the team scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.

Bridgeport pushed their record up to 15-7 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.7 points over those games. As for Gordon-Rushville, their loss dropped their record down to 6-14.

Gordon-Rushville was dealt a bruising 65-7 defeat at the hands of Bridgeport in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can Gordon-Rushville avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
