Baseball Recap: West Central Takes a Loss

West Central fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Pioneer on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 10-9. The Trojans have struggled against the Panthers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.

Tate Leman spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and eight unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Zane Wall and Connor Huber did some serious damage despite the final result: Wall went 2-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Huber went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases and three runs. West Central is 2-1 when Wall posts two or more runs, but 6-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Teagan Holle, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

West Central's loss dropped their record down to 8-10. As for Pioneer, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West Central will welcome Culver Community at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Pioneer, they will be playing at home against Caston at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
