Softball Game Preview: Decatur Red Raiders vs. Whitesburg Christian Academy Warriors

The Decatur Red Raiders are taking a road trip to square off against the Whitesburg Christian Academy Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Decatur has given up an average of 13.1 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Decatur lost 16-10 to Mae Jemison on Monday. The Red Raiders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Mallie Hudson was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Josey Hendrix made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and fired off two home runs, four runs, and two doubles while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Lizzie Kresch was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Even though they lost, Decatur lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Whitesburg Christian Academy's offense. They came up short against Madison Academy on Tuesday, falling 11-0. That makes it the first time this season the Warriors have let down their home crowd.

Decatur's record now sits at 2-15. As for Whitesburg Christian Academy, the loss was their first at home , dropping their record down to 7-3.

Decatur suffered a grim 11-2 defeat to Whitesburg Christian Academy when the teams last played back in February. Can Decatur avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
