West Nassau's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Skyler Freeman led the charge by rushing for 189 yards and two TDs on only 12 carries. That's the most rushing touchdowns Freeman has posted since back in October of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Griffin, who rushed for 171 yards and a pair of scores on only 14 carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: West Nassau was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 561 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Fernandina Beach got themselves on the board against Paxon School For Advanced Studies on Friday, but Paxon School For Advanced Studies never followed suit. They blew past the Golden Eagles 28-0. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by 27 points or more this season.
Fernandina Beach's win came from a few key players West Nassau will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Aydin Poe, who picked up 116 receiving yards and two touchdowns. He really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 73 yards. Ian Miller was another key player, throwing for 254 yards and three TDs while completing 73.9% of his passes.
The win made it two in a row for Fernandina Beach and bumps their season record up to 7-5. The victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 21 points in those games. As for West Nassau, their record is now 11-1.
Friday's contest might be decided in the trenches. West Nassau has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 323.7 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Fernandina Beach, though, as they've been averaging only 91.4 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
West Nassau was able to grind out a solid win over Fernandina Beach in their previous matchup back in September, winning 32-21. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
