Basketball Preview: Agua Dulce Longhorns vs. Santa Maria Cougars
The Agua Dulce Longhorns will head out on the road to challenge the Santa Maria Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Agua Dulce is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road.
Agua Dulce proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 27) but on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Kaufer 31-29.
Agua Dulce got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Alyssa Vinton out in front who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Vinton is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. Kaylee Deaver was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven rebounds and two blocks.
Meanwhile, Santa Maria's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their tenth straight loss. They took a hard 49-34 fall against Premont.
Agua Dulce is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-7 record this season. As for Santa Maria, their loss dropped their record down to 1-13.
Everything came up roses for Agua Dulce against the Cougars when the teams last played back in January as the team secured a 40-11 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Agua Dulce since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
