Basketball Game Preview: Marshwood Hawks vs. Deering Rams

The Marshwood Hawks will venture away from home to challenge the Deering Rams at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Deering took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Marshwood, who comes in off a win.

While Marshwood didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-10), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past Falmouth, posting a 50-18 win. Given the Hawks' advantage in MaxPreps' Maine basketball rankings (they are ranked sixth, while the Navigators are ranked 97th), the result on Thursday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Deering was beaten by South Portland 58-27 on Monday. The Rams have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Deering's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Marshwood, their victory bumped their record up to 7-1.

Everything came up roses for Marshwood against Deering in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, as the team secured a 55-27 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Marshwood since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
