Basketball Recap: Somerset Academy - Canyons Takes a Loss

Somerset Academy - Canyons came into this matchup off a tough 34-point loss on Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Leonard Lancers by a score of 66-63 on Thursday. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Lancers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2024.

Leonard found their leader in sophomore Matthew Shedd, who went 7-for-11 on his way to 20 points in addition to seven boards and six steals. Shedd is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jaden Lopez, who posted 13 points and three steals.

Somerset Academy - Canyons' loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Leonard, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Looking ahead, Somerset Academy - Canyons will face off against Seminole Ridge at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. As for Leonard, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Sports Leadership & Management at 6:00 p.m. on December 1.
