Baseball Recap: Albany Takes a Loss

Albany lost a heartbreaker to El Cerrito when they met two weeks ago, and they left with a heavy heart again on Wednesday. The Cougars fell 3-0 to the Gauchos. The match marked the first time this year in which the Cougars were not able to get on the board.

Max Eddy was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April.

At the plate, Albany saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sam Beynon, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base.

Albany has also been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 16-10 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for El Cerrito, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 18-7.

As of now, neither Albany nor the Gauchos have any future games scheduled.
