Softball Recap: Wilder Comes Up Short

Wilder came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against the Horseshoe Bend Mustangs, falling 18-4. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.

Natalie Escutia and Ali Fogg did some serious damage despite the final result: Escutia went 1-for-2 with five stolen bases and one run, while Fogg got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. Escutia has been hot recently, having posted three or more stolen bases the last three times she's played.

Wilder dropped their record down to 2-7 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Horseshoe Bend, their record now sits at 6-1.

Coming up, Wilder will venture away from home to challenge Idaho City at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
