As basketball games were tipping off earlier this week, we were combing through Nebraska's prep round ball schedules in an attempt to select our Top 10 boys basketball games for January-February. And here they are.
1. Kansas Overall No. 1 Sunrise Christian Academy (Bel Aire, Kan.) (14-3) vs. Class A No. 3 Papillion-LaVista (Papillion) (6-2), at Heartland Hoops Classic (Grand Island), Feb. 11Not only does this matchup pit a pair of very good basketball teams against each other – it may be the one time this season basketball fans will get a glimpse of this much individual talent on one basketball court for a regular season game. Sunrise's roster is loaded with Division 1 talent, while the Monarchs are led by returning All-Nebraska and Super-State selectees
Ed Chang and
Ayo Akinwole (committed to Nebraska-Omaha), who average 16.8 and 19 points a game respectively. The Buffaloes are led by seniors Isaiah Jasey, who signed with Texas A&M in November, and Florida State commit Bryan Trimble.
2. Class A No. 4 Creighton Prep (Omaha) (6-1) at Class A No. 12 Omaha Central (Omaha) (5-3), Jan. 28These two Nebraska big school powers battled it out at the Nebraska state basketball tournament last March with Creighton Prep coming out on top 58-57.

Now both teams hope to meet in the state championship game. The 2016 Class C1 state football champion Eagles are led by
Tyler Regan's 14.6 scoring average.

In 2017, both of these clubs have the talent to duke it out on the state tournament hardcourt.
Hayden Miller is scoring right at 20 points a game for the defending champions, while

Now Ponca gets Winnebago, who is averaging almost 85 points, a game, on their home court. Winnebago has scored 80 points or more in 10 of their 12 contests in 2016-17, including a season high 101 points in a season opening win over Homer. Ponca was led by

Instead of playing for a state championship, however, the Broncos and fellow pre-tournament unbeaten Winnebago had to settle their differences in the consolation game with the Indians winning a 74-73 dandy in overtime. Amherst is unbeaten once again and brings a trio of double-digit scorers into this tussle.
