Salinas had lost four games straight , but after bumping their record up to 9-15 on Tuesday that streak is in the rearview. They had just enough and edged out the Carmel Padres 2-1. This was a revenge game for the Cowboys: when they faced off against the Padres back in April, they had to take a 11-4 defeat.
Jordan Isla was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Salinas is 4-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-13 otherwise. Isla was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.
Isla wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Rainey, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.
As for Carmel, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 16-9. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 8 runs in those games.
On Carmel's side, Kenny Sanchez was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Sanchez has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.
Salinas does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Carmel, they will take on St. Francis at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
