Softball Recap: Haddam-Killingworth Victorious

Haddam-Killingworth proved they can win big two weeks ago (they won by 22) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Westbrook Knights 9-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cougars have posted since April 19, 2024.

Emma Giaccone spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Caley Napoletano, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Grace Natanzon was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Haddam-Killingworth kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Haddam-Killingworth's record is now 3-0. As for Westbrook, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Haddam-Killingworth will challenge Hale Ray at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Noises' pitching crew has only allowed 1.8 runs per game this season, so the Cougars' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Westbrook, they will head out to square off against North Branford at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
