Softball Recap: Henderson County Wins High-Profile Matchup Against Floyd Central

Henderson County is ranked highly in their home state and on Friday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Floyd Central. The Colonels narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Highlanders 1-0. The one-run effort marked the Colonels' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Not much got past Anna Kemp, who gave up just three hits and racked up eight Ks to keep Floyd Central off the board. Kemp has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Henderson County's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ayden Bennett, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Another was Emmy Sword, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.

The victory was the fourth in a row for Henderson County, bringing their record up to 9-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Floyd Central, they moved to 9-2 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Coincidentally, Henderson County and Floyd Central will both be playing Eastern Hancock the next time they take the field. The Colonels will head out to face the Royals at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Highlanders will play them later in the day, at 7:00 p.m.
