Softball Recap: Burkburnett Extends Winning Streak to Three

Burkburnett waltzed into their contest on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top against the Bridgeport Bulls by a score of 6-3. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 9-3 back in March.

Kennedy Smith was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out 17 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one triple and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February.

Smith wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Lydia Duff, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Another was Macie Call, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Burkburnett pushed their record up to 13-16 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Bridgeport, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 14 of their last 15 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-18 record this season.

Burkburnett will head out on the road to take on Castleberry at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lions have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.64 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Bridgeport, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Lake Worth at 7:00 p.m. The Bulls are facing the Bullfrogs at the right time seeing as the Bullfrogs are stuck on a 13-game losing streak.
