Softball Game Preview: McLean Highlanders vs. Langley Saxons

McLean is on a 13-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Langley is on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Highlanders will host the Saxons at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Langley's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Friday: McLean hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. The Highlanders didn't even let Chantilly on the board on Tuesday, marking the Highlanders' second-straight 10-0 shutout. The Highlanders haven't had any issues with the Chargers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Langley walked away with it. They never let the Cougars get on the board and left with a 6-0 win on Tuesday.

Norah Jacques made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 22 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Jacques wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Caitlin Hohenthaner, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Mina Britt was another, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.

Langley hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive matches.

Langley is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-6-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for McLean, their win bumped their record up to 19-2.
