Portsmouth came tearing into Friday's match with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.2 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Rock Hill Redmen a 12-0 shutout. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by ten runs or more this season.

Not much got past Leelind Scurlock, who gave up just a hit and racked up 11 Ks to keep Rock Hill off the board. Scurlock has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, J.T. Williams was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Trevin Brooks was another key player, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Portsmouth was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .515. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Portsmouth pushed their record up to 10-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Rock Hill, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.

Portsmouth will take on Chesapeake at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Rock Hill, they will welcome Dawson-Bryant at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Hornets have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.38 runs per game on average), something the Redmen will no doubt try to take advantage of.
