Basketball Recap: Atlantic Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Joshua Wiggins and Cris De La Pena

Atlantic lost against Mainland back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Atlantic Sharks took a 61-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mainland Buccaneers. The Sharks' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Atlantic's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Cris De La Pena, who went 6 for 12 en route to 18 points, and Joshua Wiggins, who posted 11 points. De La Pena's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Mekhi Yan, who scored four points and six rebounds.

Leading Mainland to victory were Kade Manley and Canyon Powers. Manley went 10 of 17 on his way to 28 points and five boards, while Powers almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. What's more, Powers also racked up two blocks, the most he's had since back in December of 2024.

Atlantic's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 18-6. As for Mainland, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 15-9.

Atlantic wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 70-60 defeat against Vanguard on the 31st. As for Mainland, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 72-69 win against Bell Creek Academy on the 1st.
