Softball Game Preview: Chester Volcanoes vs. CORE Butte Lynx

For the first time this season, Chester will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They are taking a road trip to take on the CORE Butte Lynx at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Chester is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.

Chester will bounce into Wednesday's game after beating Portola, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Volcanoes were the clear victors by an 18-9 margin over the Tigers on Wednesday. The Volcanoes haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Jenna Schlueter was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Schlueter was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Chester got a massive performance out of Nancy Christianson, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Sarah Branch was another key player, scoring four runs while getting on base in three of her six plate appearances.

Meanwhile, CORE Butte fell victim to Los Molinos and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Bulldogs, falling 7-0. The match marked the first time this season in which the Lynx were not able to get on the board.

Chester's record is now 8-5. As for CORE Butte, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.

Chester skirted past CORE Butte 6-5 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Will the Volcanoes repeat their success, or do the Lynx have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
