Softball Game Preview: Freeport Pretzels vs. Eastland Cougars

The Freeport Pretzels will take on the Eastland Cougars at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Freeport is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.

On Friday, Freeport didn't have quite enough to beat Lena-Winslow and fell 7-6.

Mackenzee Matz put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over six innings pitched. Matz was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.

In other batting news, Quinn Krzeminiski was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Di'Mya Leiser also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Eastland's offense. They came up short against Milledgeville on Thursday, falling 19-0. The match marked the first time this year in which the Cougars were not able to get on the board.

Freeport's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Eastland, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Freeport skirted past Eastland 7-6 in their previous meeting back in March of 2022. Will the Pretzels repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
