Football Recap: Dynamic Duo of Elijah Martin and Hawkins Flanagan Lead Dayspring Christian Academy to Victory

Dayspring Christian Academy's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They snuck past the Sedgwick County Cougars with a 28-22 victory. For the Eagles, this counts as revenge for the 46-23 win the Cougars walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2024.

Dayspring Christian Academy was led to victory by Hawkins Flanagan and Elijah Martin. Flanagan rushed for 65 yards and three touchdowns, while Martin rushed for 115 yards and one TD. That's the most rushing yards Martin has posted since back in September of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Sedgwick County lost, don't look at Owen Harris. Despite the final result, he rushed for 189 yards and three scores while picking up 9.9 yards per carry. That high mark didn't come from nowhere: Harris posted at least 183 rushing yards in the fourth games prior.

Dayspring Christian Academy's record now sits at 5-1. As for Sedgwick County, they moved to 3-2 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Coincidentally, Dayspring Christian Academy and Sedgwick County will both be playing Merino the next time they take the field. The Eagles will head out to face the Rams at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, while the Cougars will host them at 7:30 p.m. on the 17th.
