Football Recap: Exeter Monarchs vs. Porterville Panthers
Exeter came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They took a blow against the Porterville Panthers, falling 33-0. The Monarchs lost against the Panthers in their previous head to head back in September of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 10-6 score last time.
Andrew Plyman threw for 71 yards on six of 15 attempts. Owen Robertson was his top target, picking up 63 receiving yards. On the ground, Mykael Luna rushed for 31 yards.
Ethan Enriquez had another great game (as he tends to do), throwing for 369 yards and five touchdowns while completing 81.2% of his passes for Porterville. The dominant performance also gave Enriquez a new career-high in passer rating (157.4). Porterville's leading receiver Mark Salinas was Enriquez's top target yet again, picking up 179 receiving yards and one score.
Exeter now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Porterville, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-1.
Exeter and Porterville will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Monarchs are set to square off against their familiar foe Sierra Pacific at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Porterville will take on rival Redwood at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
