Baseball Recap: Decatur's Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Six

Decatur waltzed into their game on Friday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They put the hurt on the Bridgeport Bulls with a sharp 8-2 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 14-0 last Tuesday.

Jed Ross made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Raymundo Contreras, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Decatur is undefeated when Contreras posts two or more runs, but 11-13-1 otherwise. Caden Hill was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

Decatur hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive matches.

Decatur's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-13-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Bridgeport, they are on a 22-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-20.

Coming up, Decatur will square off against Eagle Mountain at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Bridgeport, they will venture away from home to challenge Lake Worth at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulls are facing the Bullfrogs at the right time seeing as the Bullfrogs are stuck on a 13-game losing streak.
