Softball Recap: Thursday's Victory Is Princeton's Third in Last Four Outings

Princeton came out on top against Erie-Prophetstown on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run fifth inning. The Tigers walked away with a 9-5 victory over the Panthers. This was a revenge game for the Tigers: when they faced off against the Panthers on Monday, they had to take a 10-9 defeat.

Piper Hansen looked comfortable as she tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Princeton got a big performance out of Izzy Gibson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Woolley, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI.

Princeton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive matches.

Princeton has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Erie-Prophetstown, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 8-7 record.

Coming up, Princeton is taking a road trip to challenge Riverdale at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Rams' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Tigers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Erie-Prophetstown, they will host Hall at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
