Softball Recap: Riverside Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Raceland, Riverside was happy to have turned things around on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Woodrow Wilson Flying Eagles a 3-0 shutout. The three-run effort marked the Warriors' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Not much got past Shaylea Blackhurst, who gave up just a hit and racked up ten Ks to keep Woodrow Wilson off the board. Those ten strikeouts gave Blackhurst a new career-high.

At the plate, Riley Smith was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.

Riverside now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Woodrow Wilson, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Looking ahead, Riverside is taking a road trip to square off against Oak Hill at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Woodrow Wilson, they will welcome Independence at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Independence will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Woodrow Wilson surely won't give up without a fight.
