Softball Game Preview: Del Norte Warriors vs. Freedom Falcons

The Del Norte Warriors will challenge the Freedom Falcons at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Del Norte's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Freedom's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Del Norte heads in on the heels of a playoff contest on Thursday. They lost 12-5 to McKinleyville. The Warriors' defeat signaled the end of their ten-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, Freedom waltzed into their game on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victors by a 14-3 margin over the Wolves. Considering the Falcons have won nine matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Riley Moon made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Moon was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two).

In other batting news, Freedom let Jaiden Proctor and Yasmeen Sanchez run wild. Proctor went 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Sanchez got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Delaney Zimmer, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Freedom lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now launched at least two home runs in three consecutive contests.

Del Norte's loss dropped their record down to 20-3. As for Freedom, they now have a winning record of 10-9-1.
