Softball Recap: Windber Comes Up Short

Windber dropped their record down to 12-6-1 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 13-1 to the Berlin Brothersvalley Mountaineers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mountaineers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-1 back in April.

As for Berlin Brothersvalley, the win was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-1. The result was nothing new for the Mountaineers, who have now won 12 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

For Berlin Brothersvalley's part, Sam Walker made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Walker has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Coral Prosser was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one triple. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Cayley Poorbaugh was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run.

Looking ahead, Windber will challenge Northern Bedford County at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Berlin Brothersvalley, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, an 8-1 loss against Claysburg-Kimmel on the 9th.
